Mariko over at Gamerwife recently posted her juicy Geeky Confessions, which got me thinking about what my own Geeky Confessions would be. I have many, but I decided to go with the three that make me feel most at odds with the fandoms at large.
*deep breath* Here we go:
There, I said it. I started watching Doctor Who with the Christopher Eccleston series. Prior to that, I just have vague memories of my parents watching the Tom Baker series on PBS, and being scared of the Daleks. I was already an Eccleston fan (if you haven’t seen Shallow Grave [and you aren’t too squeamish] go watch it now). I quickly got pulled into the world of the Doctor and I loved his relationship with Rose. And then…he was gone…and replaced with a rude guy with big hair. Nothing against David Tennant – I think he’s a great actor – but, I really didn’t like his Doctor. Here is a shortlist of the things that bugged me the most about Ten:
Wow. I’m feeling better already! Next up!
I’ll preface this with the fact that I’ve read all five ASoIaF books thus far, as well as watched the show (which has a whole other set of issues – don’t get me started). I realize her story is far from over, and my opinion could change. In fact, if George R.R. Martin were to have Daenerys follow in her father’s footsteps a bit (with the crazy and all), I think that could be intriguing…but, I don’t see that happening. Unfortunately, I think she’s going to do exactly what we all think she’s going to do, but it’s going to take her FOREVER to get there. (Sorry for the vagueness, I’m trying not to be spoilery).
And then there’s Arrow:
I’m really enjoying Arrow. I’m choosing to ignore what they did to Huntress on the show, hoping that they will swing around and do right by her character. My main concern is the Olicity ship. Now, I’m all for folks shipping whomever they want – more power to you! However, the writers on the show seem willing to pander to this idea, and I don’t like it. Felicity Smoak is as close to Oracle (one of my all-time favorite comic characters) as we’re likely to get for a good, long while. She’s smart, and funny, and an integral part of the team. I would HATE to see her relegated to Ollie’s love interest, and to have her smarts and tech savvy overshadowed by romance drama. Just let Felicity be a badass, and a platonic friend to Ollie…please!
Well, there they are. What do you think?
